Understanding the West Philippine Sea and Combating Disinformation and Fake News

On 28 September 2024, NSTP students at Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Colleges participated in a seminar titled "Understanding the West Philippine Sea and Combating Disinformation and Fake News" held at the college auditorium.

 

The seminar, led by COL JO-AR A HERRERA PA (MNSA), Chief, Public Affairs Division, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Civil-Military Operations, J7, aimed to educate students about the West Philippine Sea while addressing the challenges posed by disinformation and fake news. Key topics included the significance of national identity, patriotism, and civic responsibility.

 

By incorporating discussions about the West Philippine Sea and strategies to counter misinformation into the curriculum, students can develop the knowledge and skills necessary to be socially aware and fulfill their civic duties.

Military and Uniformed Personnel Summit 2024

On September 5, 2024, the Office of the AFP Sergeant Major, under the leadership of FCMS Feliciano M. Lazo (Inf) PA, successfully hosted the Military and Uniformed Personnel Summit 2024 at the Enlisted Personnel Recreation Center in Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

The summit aimed to foster enhanced collaboration and mutual understanding among military and uniformed personnel regarding critical issues surrounding the West Philippine Sea. Key topics included strengthening the Philippines’ maritime security and improving maritime domain awareness, as well as adapting leadership styles to navigate the dynamic security landscape.

This initiative was designed to equip military and uniformed personnel (MUP) with essential knowledge and skills, promoting a robust mentoring system that emphasizes discipline and order. Participants engaged in meaningful discussions about leadership journeys, sharing insights and experiences that impart core values and enhance overall effectiveness and efficiency within their ranks.

Through this summit, the AFP aims to cultivate a culture of continuous learning and adaptability, ensuring that personnel are well-prepared to meet current and future challenges in the region.

In support to the goals of this activity, LCDR MARIA CHRISTINA A ROXAS PN, Assistant Chief, Public Affairs Division, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Civil-Military Operations, J7 introduced the AFP Communication Plan for the West Philippine Sea  “MULAT”. In her lecture, LCDR ROXAS emphasized the importance of having a collective narrative for the military and uniformed services when it comes to the issues surrounding the West Philippine Sea as it

 

MULAT Launching

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) proudly launched the WPS MULAT cover photo on June 28, here, headed by General Romeo Brawner Jr., Chief of Staff of the AFP, signifying ongoing efforts to enhance transparency, awareness, and strategic communication for the West Philippines Sea (WPS).

In his address, General Brawner emphasized the importance of protecting maritime domain and fostering a deeper understanding among Filipino citizens of the significance of the nation’s sovereign rights.
