AFP pushes cyber readiness in WPS Discourse

The Armed Forces of the Philippines pushed cyber readiness in a lecture at The New First Maritime Place, New 7458 Bagtikan Street, San Antonio Village, Makati last March 20, 2025.

AFP Spokesperson Col Francel Margareth Padilla delivered it, wherein the topic was mainly about cybersecurity for national security and a lecture about the West Philippine Sea.

The gathering brought together important figures from the cybersecurity, maritime, and defense industries to enhance awareness of the connections between digital threats and geopolitical tensions.

Col Padilla emphasized the critical importance of safeguarding both the nation's physical borders and its digital landscape.

She addressed the expanding significance of cyber operations and information warfare in shaping narratives and undermining national interests, particularly in light of rising foreign misinformation efforts in the WPS.

The struggle for autonomy is now not confined to territory and waters—it has broadened into the realm of information. Cybersecurity is national security, especially when our maritime claims and public trust are under attack,” she asserted.

Moreover, the event was part of an ongoing effort to integrate cyber defense strategies into national discourse and ensure that both maritime and digital frontlines are secured for future generations.
